April 2026 Newsletter

After we published the November & December 2025 edition of our magazine, our team then worked on the European Go Yearbook 2025. We published our first book in this format last year and the go community highly appreciated it. The new 2025 edition is already at the printer’s and will soon be announced!
The January & February 2026 edition of the EGJ was published earlier this month. It included a detailed report on the European Grand Prix Finale in Stockholm, a review of the final game from this tournament between Damen Woo 6d and Lukáš Podpěra 7d and a lot of other interesting material. For instance, Li Ang 3p wrote a brief biography of Nie Weiping 9p, and Dai Junfu 8d commented on one of the famous games of this legendary Chinese professional, compatriot of Ang and Junfu, who passed away in January. If you missed this edition, I strongly recommend you to purchase it on our website!

The European go scene is in the middle of an active season now. In this edition, you’ll find reports, game commentary and photography from such events as the European Professional Championship in Romania, the European Youth Championship in Croatia and more.
Group photo from the 2026 European Professional ChampionshipFebruary marked the fifth anniversary of our project. I am very proud of the product we create. When I was presenting the European Go Journal at the last European Go Congress in Warsaw, I had a little time to sit down and look through our entire back catalogue of old issues. To be honest, after a few years and over 40 published editions, I had forgotten some of the material we published earlier. It was very interesting for me to read it one more time!
A photo of one of our past editionsWe live in a turbulent time of technological progress. Reading physical media is not as popular as it used to be. However, isn’t this a true pleasure – to take a break in the middle of the hurricane of life, make yourself a cup of tea or coffee, open the European Go Journal and replay one of the commented games on a real board? I guess we can call it a sort of meditation.
Of course, our main wealth is the information published in the European Go Journal. It is available in digital format, too. However, especially in the era of digitalization, I find it inspiring that we also offer our readers a printed format. The printed journal is a tangible, beautiful object. You can hold it in your hands, store it on a shelf, show it to a friend when they visit and open it again ten years later.
If you are not yet a subscriber of our magazine, I invite you to visit our Subscription page and choose a format that fits you. This is the best way to ensure that you receive future issues of the European Go Journal and support our project.
