September 2026 Newsletter
Sep 13, 2026Written by Artem Kachanovskyi 3p, Editor-in-chief of the European Go Journal
The May & June 2026 edition of the EGJ was published in August. Mariia-Viktoriia Sviata makes a debut in our magazine by painting a stunning cover. You can find in this edition an interview with Benjamin Dréan-Guénaïzia 1p dedicated to the European team’s participation in the Chinese C League, and commentary on one of the games played in this tournament by Tanguy Le Calvé 1p. I also review the deciding game of the 31st LG Cup final match played between Wang Xinghao 9p and Shin Minjun 9p. Gunnar Dickfeld shares an article on meeting Ueno Asami 6p – the author of a book he has recently published. Jason Wu tells the story of Go Odyssey – a web-based tsumego training platform structured as an explorable RPG world map. Li Ang and Dai Junfu continue their fascinating series: Treasure Go Collection and Mastering Ko, respectively. This and plenty more interesting material is included in this edition.
We plan to release the next issue, July & August 2026, in October. Here are some of our plans for this upcoming edition.
The 68th European Go Congress was held in Ankara, Turkey at the end of July and beginning of August. It included such important tournaments as the individual and team European Championships. Andrii Kravets 3p claimed the double European Championship this time. We will interview him and take a look at the final game Andrii played against Ali Jabarin 3p.
Podium in Ankara
At the same as the EGC in Turkey, another big event of the Western go world was held in Boston – the 42nd US Go Congress. If you attended the Congress in Europe or America and would like to share your impressions with our readers, please contact us!
We accept articles dedicated to smaller events, too. For instance, Joan Lluís i Rabassó sent in a report on the IX Go Nam-Ban Go Club Seminar that took place at the end of August in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Spain. If you would like the European Go Journal to print an article dedicated to your tournament, or any other interesting go-related material, feel free to send us a message.
As ever, in the July & August edition we will also report on the most exciting events from the Asian go scene. For instance, Shin Jinseo 9p defeated KataGo 2-1 in a two-stone handicap series, Shin Minjun 9p won the GS Caltex Cup in South Korea, Iyama Yuta 9p defended his Gosei title in Japan and Xu Jiayang 9p won the CCTV Cup in China. You can read about all this and more in our World News chapter.

Finally, I would like to share some of my personal news. On August 17th, my wife gave birth to our third child. We called our new baby girl Mariia. So, it’s a happy and busy period of life at our home in Kyiv.
